Cruising Couple ‘Weigh Anchor’ on $100,000 Keno Doubler Prize

Owings Mills Woman turns $5 Wager into $100,000

KENOAn Owings Mills couple had been making last minute preparations for an upcoming trip when they reeled in a whale of a jackpot. A few days before taking a cruise to celebrate her husband’s birthday, a registered nurse and her husband were enjoying dinner and a few games of Keno at a local restaurant when they won $100,000 on an 8-spot game.
“We don’t play that often, but we like to play when we go out somewhere that has the game,” said the 60-year-old. Since they were celebrating a birthday, the couple tried a combination or their birthdates, years and ages on the ticket. Later as the couple ate, they looked up to see some of their numbers on the screen.
“I saw three of the numbers and they just kept coming – they kept jumping,” said her husband. When all the numbers had appeared they were surprised to see how much they had won. Combined with the Doubler bonus printed on the ticket, their $50,000 prize grew to be $100,000. “We were excited then, but you don’t really feel all of the win until you come in to claim the prize,” he said.
When news of the win circulated through the restaurant, the couple became instant celebrities for the rest of the night. “Everyone was congratulating us and comparing their own Keno strategies,” said the woman. They even had a security escort to their car at the end of the evening.
If you ask the lucky couple, the hardest part of winning the jackpot has been waiting to claim their prize money. The couple left their lucky ticket in the care of their daughters while on their cruise. “We just made ourselves so nervous with all of the possibilities of losing the ticket while on the trip,” said the winners.
The couple say they may use the winnings for renovations and travel but plan to share a portion with immediate family and their church. The winning ticket was purchased at Greene Turtle, located in Owings Mills.

I LIVED THE FANTASY – KAREN KLEINFELD

I’m living the fantasy and will be for the entire 2010 season!
Thank you, Maryland Lottery!

Karen KleinfeldI found out I won on New Year’s Eve and I couldn’t imagine a better way for this Raven’s fan to ring in the new year than to win season tickets!   My celebration consisted of letting my brother-in-law, Mark Staines, know that we were going to enjoy the 2010 football season, not sitting at home, but tailgating, getting dressed up in our Raven’s gear and cheering our team to victory with our closest 70,000 friends at M&T Bank Stadium!

So, on New Years Eve, I donned my Raven’s attire with bird caller in hand and marched into his house exclaiming, “We won, we won, we won season tickets!”. It took some convincing that this was not a joke, but after listening to the voicemail from the lottery office, he was a believer and the New Years Eve festivus had begun!

And what makes this even better is to go to your first preseason game and find out that the person sitting right next to you won their season tickets too!  Hey, Larry and Dave….see you next game!

Living the Fantasy in 2010,

Bonus Match 5 Win Brings Back Memories

Owings Mills Woman Takes $50,000 Top Prize

Bonus Match 5Eight years ago Nancy Swierk, who normally plays Keno, decided to purchase a  Bonus Match 5 ticket and won the game’s $50,000 top prize. Last week, on a whim she decided to play that game again, and once again matched all five numbers for the top prize.

The physical therapist was playing Keno with her coworkers after work last Thursday, as she regularly does. Before leaving, she decided to buy a Bonus Match 5 ticket. After watching the drawing on TV and seeing her numbers, Nancy excitedly called the winning numbers line and checked the internet just to make sure she was a winner. Once Nancy confirmed that she was $50,000 richer, she called the owner of the store to tell him the good news.

The 52-year-old plans to repair her dishwasher and car, pay some bills, and spoil her two “soon-to-be-fat” cats. The winning ticket was sold at Lakeside Liquors, located at 9229 Lakeside Blvd in Owings Mills.

U.S. Army Veteran Wins $50,000 Bonus Match 5 Top Prize

Nakia Grant - Bonus Match 5Last Friday, Nakia Grant was in the right place at the right time.  Her boss asked her to go to the store to pick up some supplies, and while she was there she decided to purchase a couple of Bonus Match 5 tickets.  “I have only played one other time, but I figured why not,” said the 32-year-old U.S. Army veteran.  Later that evening, before going to bed, she checked her tickets online.  She looked at the computer and then her ticket.  She then looked at the computer and ticket again, in a “back and forth” motion.   “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing…my first reaction was WHOA!”  She told her partner, who had the same shocked reaction.  Nakia couldn’t sleep that night, and the next morning decided to check the ticket one last time.

The winner kept the ticket in her wallet until that Monday when she visited Lottery headquarters to cash it.  Her plans include paying bills, saving, sharing with family, taking trips to Disney and maybe Las Vegas, and going back to college.  The winning ticket was purchased at 1 Convenience Store on 10201 Reisterstown Rd. in Owings Mills.

Lottery Winners Return from Pittsburgh with Big Smiles and Heavy Hearts

Ten starstruck Lottery players returned home on Sunday from a whirlwind weekend with the Ravens.  Although the game didn’t turn out quite the way Ravens fans would have wanted, nothing could change the smiling faces of these ten Ravens Cash Fantasy winners.  The lucky Marylanders traveled with the Ravens on the team plane to and from Pittsburgh for the Ravens vs. Steelers game.  They also received a one-night hotel stay at the team hotel; tickets to the game; and $250 spending cash.

“For me the hand shake with the coach and the opportunity to wish him good luck on the day of the game made my entire trip,” said one of the winners, Geri Arnold from Lexington Park.  “I met some wonderful people – the other Lottery winners – and hope to remain friends and reunite at another Ravens game.”

Along with Geri, the other winners included: Kevin Dunnigan from Pasadena, Debbie Divel from Sparrows Point, Michael King from Linthicum, Chris Hess from Abingdon, Jim Woolfrey from Owings Mills, Rose Brooks from Baltimore, Trevette Collins from Sykesville, and Nicole Carter from Middle River.

Ravens Cash Fantasy players are encouraged to keep registering their EXTRA YARDS in the ticket’s Internet promotion.  In addition to the season tickets for life, other prizes remaining include: season tickets for 2010, game-worn jerseys, autographed footballs, and autographed photographs. Go to mdlottery.com/ravens for details on prizes, drawing dates and more.

Pikesville Accountant Has Lots of Zeroes to Count

$1 Million Win with Ultimate Payday Instant Game

Ultimate PaydayOn the night he became the Maryland Lottery’s newest millionaire, a Baltimore County man came very close to walking away from his fortune.  After stopping at his favorite Lottery store for a few scratch-offs, he was surprised to find that he’d not won a thing – he’s usually pretty lucky.  “If I had won $20 on those first tickets I would have gone home right then,” he told Lottery officials.  The events of the next few minutes show that it’s sometimes good to be unlucky, if only for a moment.

Today’s winner decided to try just a couple more tickets before he left, one of which was Ultimate Payday.  As he scratched he started to laugh.  “The farther I got into playing the game, the more I laughed.  It was ridiculously unreal.”

Realizing his good fortune, he told the cashier that he’d won and she asked ‘How much?’  He didn’t say a thing, just stared at her.  She quickly got the message, checked the ticket and then the party began.

The Pikesville man confided that he has had a tough year financially, so this win comes at a very good time.  “This money is going to help with lots of different things in my life.”

The million dollar ticket was sold at the 7-11 convenience store at 3731 Crondall Lane in Owings Mills.
