Wins $40,000 Playing Keno
Steve Davidson spent thirty years working at Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore before retiring and taking his family to the mountains of West Virginia. He comes back to town once a month to visit his mother, a trip which today was a few miles longer than normal – the distance from Glen Burnie to Lottery Headquarters.
“We took my mom out to lunch and while we were there I decided to play Keno,” Steve told officials. A long-time fan of Maryland Lottery games, Steve has an eight-digit Keno combination he plays whenever he’s back in his hometown. “I’d been playing these specific numbers for a while with no success. I told my wife I was trying them just one more time.” Those eight numbers, along with Steve’s selection of the game’s “super bonus” option, made this lunch a memorable one.
Steve watched the game as the family began eating. “I saw number after number coming up,” he explained, “and when that eighth number matched I was stunned.” When he was informed that he’d just won $40,000 he had an even more dramatic reaction – especially for a Baltimorean. “I was so excited that I couldn’t finish my crab cake.”
Some of Steve’s winning will go toward paying off a recently purchased truck. The family’s new favorite spot for lunch and Keno? – Romano’s Restaurant, 6905 Ritchie Hwy.in Glen Burnie, where the winning ticket was purchased.

Owings Mills Woman turns $5 Wager into $100,000
An Owings Mills couple had been making last minute preparations for an upcoming trip when they reeled in a whale of a jackpot. A few days before taking a cruise to celebrate her husband’s birthday, a registered nurse and her husband were enjoying dinner and a few games of Keno at a local restaurant when they won $100,000 on an 8-spot game.
“We don’t play that often, but we like to play when we go out somewhere that has the game,” said the 60-year-old. Since they were celebrating a birthday, the couple tried a combination or their birthdates, years and ages on the ticket. Later as the couple ate, they looked up to see some of their numbers on the screen.
“I saw three of the numbers and they just kept coming – they kept jumping,” said her husband. When all the numbers had appeared they were surprised to see how much they had won. Combined with the Doubler bonus printed on the ticket, their $50,000 prize grew to be $100,000. “We were excited then, but you don’t really feel all of the win until you come in to claim the prize,” he said.
When news of the win circulated through the restaurant, the couple became instant celebrities for the rest of the night. “Everyone was congratulating us and comparing their own Keno strategies,” said the woman. They even had a security escort to their car at the end of the evening.
If you ask the lucky couple, the hardest part of winning the jackpot has been waiting to claim their prize money. The couple left their lucky ticket in the care of their daughters while on their cruise. “We just made ourselves so nervous with all of the possibilities of losing the ticket while on the trip,” said the winners.
The couple say they may use the winnings for renovations and travel but plan to share a portion with immediate family and their church. The winning ticket was purchased at Greene Turtle, located in Owings Mills.

Baltimore Man Takes Home $30,000 Prize
“You’ll have to excuse me,” said a 70-year-old Baltimore man as he glided into Lottery Headquarters as if floating on a cloud. “I got absolutely no sleep last night thinking about that ticket.” The lucky player was referring to his $30,000 winning Keno ticket.
The occasional Keno player was doing some shopping when he decided to purchase the Keno ticket. He normally plays Pick 3, but took a chance on an eight-spot Keno Bonus ticket yesterday. To his surprise, he won big. “I held in my screams and made my way home,” he said. The winner shared the good news with family members and then settled down for a sleepless night. He kept the winning ticket in his pants pocket all night.
The retired pharmacy employee was accompanied to Lottery Headquarters by his cousin and nephew. He also has an adult son that he plans to share the news with later. The player plans to help out some family with his winnings, buy a car and pay some bills. The winning ticket was purchased at Coopers Liquors, located at 568-70 Old Town Mall in Baltimore City.
Wins Big While Playing Keno
James Perrone was in Ocean City last week for a work conference. During his down time, he decided to stop at the Clarion Hotel they were staying in to play some Keno. “I thought I would play a couple of games for a dollar,” said the 53-year-old. The unseasoned Keno player erroneously marked his ticket for $10 per game, for two games. Instead of just $2, the ticket wound up costing him $20. He was in such a frenzy when he saw the cost of the ticket that he tried to cancel the transaction, but it was too late. The game had already started.
The Columbia resident watched the games with the rest of the people in the bar and realized that nine of his ten numbers came out very quickly. “The whole bar was rooting for that 29 to come out…I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” said the excited winner. The 29 did not come out, but James still matched nine out of ten of his numbers and wanted to know how much money he won. The bartender quickly told him it was $4,000. But, since he played $10 per game, she told him he actually won $40,000. Everyone at the bar was excited and in shock that a mistake turned out to be worth $40,000.
The winner, who has been an accountant for 19 years, already has a lot of plans with his winnings. He plans to share it with his wife, and two daughters who are currently in college. He also wants to renovate his house, and would like to take a vacation with the family. “I called my wife the day I won the money and she didn’t believe me. She wasn’t in the mood for jokes, but I assured her it wasn’t a joke at all,” said James.
The winning ticket was purchased at Lenny’s Bar in the Clarion Hotel on Coastal Highway in Ocean City.
