Fall may be in full swing in most of Maryland, but in a small corner of Anne Arundel County winter is in full roar – and it is very welcome. Mary Kronsteiner of Pasadena is the latest winner of the Winter Riches scratch-off, and the $100,000 the game delivered will make any of winter’s sometimes unpleasant aspects a bit easier to handle.
Mary is a big fan of Maryland Lottery scratch-offs and they’ve returned that affection with $1,000 and $5,000 wins in the past. Earlier this week, she stopped by her favorite Lottery store – Plaza Liquors at 4125 Mountain Road in Pasadena – to try her luck and decided to give Winter Riches a try.
“I played it right there in the store,” she told officials, “and as the numbers started matching I began saying to myself that something was wrong, this couldn’t be right.” Confirmation from the owner, with a celebratory hug thrown in, sent her off to share the news with her husband. When he, and then later her daughter, first saw the look on Mary’s face they were sure something was wrong, “What’s happened?” they asked. When she told them what happened, she was met with the same disbelief that she’d felt earlier. “My husband didn’t believe me. In fact, with the check in my hand he probably still won’t – this is just incredible.”
The retired state employee has no immediate plans for her winnings, family savings the immediate beneficiary. “One thing’s for certain, the upcoming holidays are going to be very special.”
Baltimore Woman Wins Second $100,000 Top Prize
On November 1st, the Maryland Lottery’s new Mega Millions/Powerball scratch-off landed on store shelves and only one week later two very happy players have landed the ticket’s top prize.
The latest $100,000 winner from Baltimore City is a big fan of Lottery games, although she never imagined actually striking it rich. This past Saturday proved her wrong, when her purchase of an Instant Mega Millions/Powerball scratch-off yielded the big payoff. “This is just wonderful and tremendous fun,” said the 50-year-old.
The delighted player revealed her win via her usual method of play. First, she scratched the WINNING numbers on the ticket, then the YOUR numbers section. She then scratched the money amounts of the numbers. Upon revealing that she had all five of the winning numbers, each for $10,000, she thought she had won $50,000. However, to her amazement when she scratched the Powerplay area, it revealed she had 2X the prize amount which made her total jackpot a whopping $100,000. “I was so excited,” she said. “I immediately told my sister and we literally jumped for joy.” After their celebration, she called her son with the great news. With her newfound wealth, the winner intends to buy a new car and share her prize with her family. “This has changed my life,” she said.
The winning ticket was purchased at American Eagle Money Center in Mondawmin Mall, located at 2401 Liberty Heights Ave. in Baltimore City. The Instant Mega Millions/Powerball ticket, which launched this past Monday, still has five $100,000 top prizes remaining. Along with cash prizes, players can win a quick pick Mega Millions ticket with Megaplier and a Powerball ticket with Power Play.

Eastern Shore Man Claims $100,000 Prize
In days past, Lottery players in Maryland had to wait until certain nights to try their luck with Mega Millions and Powerball. With the introduction of the new Instant Mega Millions/Powerball scratch-off, this has changed. The first player to take full advantage of the new game is a highway construction worker from Ridgely who won the first $100,000 top-prize.
“I was on the way to visit my mom and stopped in for a ticket,” today’s 23-year-old winner told officials. “I scratched it right there, saw what I thought was a big winner and kind of froze. I’m surprised now how calm I was.” The ticket made the rounds of his family, none of whom could believe it was real, even when holding the ticket in their hands.
Even well into the claim process the Eastern Shore man didn’t quite accept that this was all really happening. When handed the final paperwork, the beyond-a-doubt, irrefutable evidence that the money was his, the look on his face changed dramatically. “I’m definitely not as calm now as I was when I scratched that ticket.”
The winning ticket was purchased at the House of Spirits, located at 2 North Central Ave. in Ridgely. The Instant Mega Millions/Powerball ticket, which launched this past Monday, still has six $100,000 top prizes remaining. Along with cash prizes, players can win a quick pick Mega Millions ticket with Megaplier and a Powerball ticket with Power Play.

Wins $30,000 Top Prize on Blackout Bingo Scratch-Off
Halloween was definitely a treat for one Severn woman who won $30,000 playing the Blackout Bingo scratch-off. The 51-year-old, who is a big fan of the Maryland Lottery’s instant tickets, was on her way to her mother’s house when she decided to stop for gas and purchase a few scratch-offs.
She bought a total of four tickets which she scratched upon arriving at her destination. The first ticket was a $2 winner. Without any luck on the next two tickets, she scratched the last one, hoping she’d win a little extra. The little extra was a lot more than she expected. “I literary threw all my tickets across the room and ran around the house yelling,” she said. Her family stared at her in confusion as she took off running, “I won $30,000!” she screamed. The lucky woman later treated her entire family to dinner.
The single mother-of-two and grandmother-of-three works as a work therapy coordinator at a mental health facility. She plans to give some of her winnings to her children and invest the rest into her savings. The winning ticket was purchased at Sunflower Shell, located at 8078 Ritchie Hwy. in Pasadena.
