After the promotion for double win is over will the taxes still be paid? I know a long time ago it was but I heard that they no lonnger do that

Donna: No, this is a promotional specific offer.

Can the 2X on the Double Whammy scratchoff be in game 1 with no amounts matching and game 2 has two amounts matching to win on this ticket overall.

Lucky L: Unfortunately, no. The two ways to win on this ticket are:

Match 3 of the same prize amounts in the same GAME (all in GAME 1 or all in GAME 2)

Match 2 of the same prize amounts and a “2X” symbol in the same GAME (all in GAME 1 or all in GAME 2)

There is a rumor floating around that there was a big winner in the Morningside, MD area. Is there any way to tell if that is true and if so, can you tell/list the retailers name that had the big winner. Also, was it a scratcher or an online game.

CC: That is no rumor. You can read Patricia and Joe’s story here.

I knew that Patricia had one, That is old news. I see her all the time, we play at the same lottery retailer. I am speaking of recently within the past month (Oct-Nov. 2010).

Charlene: Big winners usually warrant a story. There aren’t any other stories featuring Morningside, MD.

I’ve had 14doubler tickets and not one a winner not even for 15.00 Since Jack Johnson got busted in prince georges county hell ain’t nobody going to win…this game sucks!!

GET RID OF THE DOUBLER!!! I DONT LIKE IT IT MAKES ME LOSE NOW!!!!!

THIS IS GREAT !!!! TAXES PAID ON 50,000.00 OR IF YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH 100,000.00 BY THE WAY WHAT IS THE TAXES ON 50,000.00 ?

According to the Lottery website roughly 1/3 of the prize money they withhold in other cases. It depends on your other incomes and

the size of the family. In many cases we will get a refund.

The Match 5 Doubler, Taxes are Paid. Does this mean All Federal and All State taxes paid or just State Taxes are paid?

Eugene P: The lottery will pay the required estimated State and Federal tax withholdings applicable to US residents on the top prize only (at the required withholding rate). Further amount could be owed. The payments of tax withholdings could result in additional Federal and State tax liability being due from the winner.

As shown on the Maryland Lottery website, the Federal tax withholding on a higher level prize is 25% and the Maryland state tax withholding is 9.25%. So for the Bonus Match 5 $50,000 top prize, $12,500 would be withheld for Federal and $4,625 for the state, and the winner would receive $32,875. Per Eugene P’s response here, during this taxes-paid promotion, it would appear that the Maryland Lottery is going to give a winner the full $50,000 to keep, then pay an additional $12,500 to the IRS and an additional $4,625 to the State of Maryland, thus actually paying out $67,125 for a top prize winner (just double all of those figures for a top prize winner with a Doubler ticket; i.e., MDLottery paying out a total of $134,250 for a $100,000 winner). Is that correct?

Mike B: Yes, this is how the promotion works and from a procedural standpoint this process is correct. I cannot confirm your exact numbers and will leave that explanation up to our claims department with any winners that may come in.

I have won a couple of times my self I just wish I hit the big one 50k or 100k or maybe a cool mill.

Is there a way to tell if the winning numbers were quick picks?

Andee: The odds are identical for every drawing and each drawing is completely random and there is no correlation to winning numbers to quick pick versus player selected numbers. Each number is its own unique event.

After a drawing we do have the ability to see whether a winner played a quick pick or player selected set of numbers.

I played Bonus Match 5 for the first time (im usually a scratch off player) last night because of the doubler promotion. Looking at the payoff chart on the “how to play” page I am confused. For the drawing on 10/30 the numbers were 7-8-12-27-39 and the bonus ball 23. One of the lines on my ticket included 23 and 39. So I matched 2 numbers and “Yes” to the bonus ball, yet my ticket was not a winner. I would understand this if higher up on the chart it did not get confusing. There is a payoff for 4 numbers and “yes” and “no” for the bonus ball. Now if the minimum match payoff is 3 numbers including the bonus ball, then how do I match 4 PLUS the bonus ball. Isnt that 5 of 5 and the $50,000 top prize? Why would 4 numbers plus the bonus ball only be $600?

Can the lottery explain the payoff chart a little better? I have had several people look at the chart, and they could not explain why my match of one number and the bonus number didnt result in a $2 winner? Or is there a number I can call for details? My lottery retailer “didnt know much about bonus match 5 because no one plays it”.

Thanks!

SStone: Bonus Match 5 drawings go like this – 5 numbers are drawn out of 39 numbers in the drawing machine – this is the only way you can win the top prize of $50,000 by matching all 5 numbers drawn, by matching 4 you win $400, by matching 3 you win $15. After the original 5 numbers are drawn a Bonus Ball is drawn from the remaining 34 numbers to allow for more wins, by matching 4 original numbers and the Bonus Ball Number you win $600, by matching 3 original numbers with the Bonus Ball Number you win $30, and by matching 2 original numbers and the Bonus Ball Number you win $2.

So in short

You win Bonus Match 5 by matching 5,4, or 3 of the original 5 winning numbers selected. Or, if you match the Bonus Ball number, you only need to match 4,3,0r 2 of the original numbers to win.

what if you play all of the same numbers on one card, that would be nine chances will you pay out 900,000

thomas: Liability limits still apply to the Doubler feature. The liability for Bonus Match 5 is 12 $50,000 winners for a total limit of $600,000. If a player had 6 doubler tickets, the $600,000 would be distributed equally access all tickets.

I’ve 4 out of 5 a few times also, but only after I hit the $50,000 (and I specifically asked them for a losing ticket). Sure wish they had the doubler back then.

I have had several 4 out of 5 but that 5th # has not come

Me too Chef Boy! I’m looking forward to the Doubler. I Hit the $15 bucks all the time and Play Daily like Clockwork on my Weekly 7 day tickets.

Big Bob

I have played match five for some time now, the doubler will be a good thing for the lottery.

In the bonus match 5 game, the power number has a purpose. What is it?

I had a ticket that had 3 numbers plus the magic number. The prize listed said I should have gotten more than $2 dollars but that is all that I was paid. None of 3 lottery agents could explain the discrepancy so I stopped playing the game.

B. Prestbury: You can get all of the details on Bonus Match 5 at our How To Play page here.

@ B. Prestbury:

See the rules here:

http://mdlottery.com/bonusmatch5.html

However, let me give you an example:

Say the winner numbers are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and the Bonus # is: 6

Your tickets says: 1, 2, 6, 12, 21

You win $2 because one of the games rule is: Match 2 numbers and the Bonus Ball.

So you won because: 1, 2, and 6 match. Lets emphasize the number “6” because it a bonus #, hence the name Bonus Match 5. The last number drawn is to help you win bonus money.

You won the $2 because of the Bonus Ball. If you just had the numbers 1 &2, then you would have won nothing.

You would have won a higher prize of $15 if the winning numbers were 1, 2, 3 following the example above. However, if the winning numbers you had on your ticket was including the number “6” you would have won: $30.

I hope this helps you.

You need to report this to the lottery. It appears that if you actually had 3 numbers on the same line and the bonus ball (all on the same line) they probably need to check out the place you cashed your ticket. There have been instances of unscrupulous lottery agents.

B. Prestbury: Rory Duncan is right. If you feel you are not getting the correct winning value or feel there is a discrepancy in any way, please contact our Security Division at 410-230-8800.

Does the bonus doubler and taxes paid count on two dollar Bonus Match Five tickets?
