Governor Martin O’Malley will Cut Ribbon to Officially Open Much-Anticipated Casino
Maryland Lottery Director Stephen Martino today signed the operation license allowing Penn National Gaming to open Hollywood Casino Perryville to the public. This license allows the first of Maryland’s slots facilities to open its doors. “The Lottery is proud to bring Maryland’s slots program to fruition,” Martino said. “Thursday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony will be the culmination of years of planning and hard work.”
Hollywood Casino Perryville and the Maryland Lottery conducted a successful controlled demonstration of the casino on Saturday, September 25, 2010. The goal of yesterday’s demonstration, which was attended by more than 1,400 guests, was to test and assess the facility’s 1,500 slot machines; retail and food services; internal controls; employee training and technical systems. One hundred percent of Hollywood Casino’s portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to The Boys and Girls Clubs of Harford and Cecil Counties and the Community Fire Company of Perryville.
The successful demonstration and granting of the license allows for a “soft” opening of the facility on Monday, September 27, 2010. “We are in a hyper-competitive gaming environment,” Martino said. “We want to expedite operations to begin creating more jobs and generating revenue for the state.”
Hollywood Casino Perryville, located just off I-95 in Cecil County, offers 1,500 state-of-the-art slot machines, a grill and buffet, gift shop and parking for more than 1,600 vehicles.
