Montgomery County Man “Answers the Call”

Wins $30,000 Red Hot & Blue 7s Top Prize

Stephen Hertslet - Red Hot & Blue 7'sWhen Stephen Hertsleft’s manager suggested he purchase a Red Hot & Blue 7s scratch-off, the regular $5 and $10 scratch-off player said he had never even considered the $3 game. But as the Boyds resident walked past the Lottery machine in the Safeway where he works, he couldn’t resist picking one up. “It was calling my name,” recalls the 54-year-old.

Stephen put the ticket in his pocket and forgot about it until the end of his shift. After work, he scratched it and thought he had won $300. “Every time I scratch I think I win, until I put on my glasses,” the frequent player says. This time, however, a second look revealed that he had actually won more than he thought – the top prize of $30,000 dollars.

The father-of-two plans to put a majority of the money away for his twin daughters’ college education and is planning a trip to Sweden, which is his wife’s home country. He also gave some money to his boss, as thanks for the ticket recommendation. The winning ticket was sold at the Safeway located at 7625 Old Georgetown Rd. in Bethesda.
