Lady Luck Comes Calling for a Baltimore Woman

Wins $50,000 Top Prize on a Sizzlin Spot Crossword Scratch-Off

Lawanda Purvey - Sizzlin' Spot CrosswordFor Lawanda Purvey, a 27-year-old security guard from West Baltimore, she found her Saint Patrick’s Day pot of gold when she purchased a Sizzlin Spot Crossword scratch-off. The lucky lady followed her rainbow straight to Lottery Headquarters to cash in her $50,000 dollar top prize today.

“I was getting off work and I just decided to purchase scratch-off tickets. Once I got them, I figured I’d scratch them when I got home,” she said. “I remember sitting at the kitchen table when I started scratching my ticket. At first I thought I had won only $30 but once I saw it was $50,000, the tears started rolling.”

Luck certainly seems to run in the family. Purvey told Lottery officials that her mother won $1,000 playing a scratch-off ticket last year and her grandmother, who accompanied her to pick up her prize, won $2.500 off the Pick 4 recently.

The winner said she’d pay off a few bills, share with some of her family members, and use some of her winning for her upcoming trip to Las Vegas.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Lowest Price on Frederick Avenue in Baltimore.
