POWERBALL Rolls into Maryland — Literally

Game Projected to Generate $41 Million in Sales for the State

PowerballPowerball, the large multi-state jackpot game, will go on sale in Maryland on January 31, 2010. To herald the game’s debut, there will be a week-long tour of the Maryland Lottery’s Powerball. The life-size ball character will make surprise visits across the State promoting the game’s arrival. The tour will culminate in the Lottery’s Powerball Kick-Off Party at Martin’s West on Sunday, January 31st from 2 pm to 4 pm. This free event will feature several live drawings for large cash prizes and one lucky winner will walk away $10,000 richer. The event will be limited to the first 400 (18+) who RSVP by visiting mdlottery.com and clicking on the ‘Events’ page. Attendees must present their RSVP confirmation form and any non-winning Maryland Lottery ticket to be admitted to the party.

“By offering Powerball in addition to Mega Millions, Marylanders will now have the choice of two big jackpot games – four times a week,” said Maryland Lottery Communications Director Carole Everett. “Not only is it great for our players, it’s a revenue generator for our State.” Powerball projections for the next fiscal year are $41 million in sales and $16.4 million in revenues.

Powerball jackpots begin at $20 million and tickets cost $1. Powerball drawings will air on WBAL-TV, Channel 11, on Wednesday and Saturday nights at approximately 11:22 PM. The first Powerball drawing date in Maryland will be on Wednesday, February 3, 2010.
