Two co-workers split $4.8 million
The largest Multi-Match jackpot in the game’s history has been won. Two Dundalk co-workers came to Lottery headquarters today to claim their $4.8 million prize. The 59-year-old and 28-year-old have worked together for a few years, and periodically purchase Lottery tickets together.
“I went to work this morning and someone told me that the winning ticket was sold at Pop’s Tavern,” said one of the lucky winners. “Right away I called my friend to come and check the ticket – I was too nervous to check it myself.”
The winners chose the cash option, which will give them more than $1 million each after taxes. Both have big plans for their winnings, including paying for college for their kids, paying off a house, travel, and investments. Pop’s Tavern, located at 4343 North Point Boulevard in Sparrows Point, will receive $4,800 for selling the winning ticket.
As suggested by its name, there are multiple ways to win with Multi-Match. Players may win by matching 3, 4 or 5 numbers on any one line, or by matching 5 to 18 numbers on all three lines combined. To win the jackpot, players must match all six numbers on one line. The Multi-Match jackpot starts at $500,000 and rises every time the large prize isn’t won. Prior to this record-breaking roll, the largest Multi-Match jackpot payout was $3 million, which was won by a Glen Burnie woman in November 2008.
