Software Consultant’s Love for Numbers Sparks $77,000 Win

Spicy Hot 7'sThe number seven was appearing everywhere in “Scratchy’s” life.  “Whenever I would look, I’d see the number seven,” said the Ellicott City man.  “Scratchy,” who got his nickname from a friend for his passion for Maryland Lottery scratch-offs, most recently saw the number seven on his winning ticket.  The 49-year-old won the top prize of $77,000 on the $5 scratch-off, Spicy Hot 7’s.

“Scratchy” began playing the Lottery three years ago, when he saw a Keno monitor in a gas station and was interested in the statistical significance of the numbers.  Now, he keeps a book of winning Lottery numbers so he can look for patterns.  “I love numbers,” he said.

The software consultant plans to use his winnings to pay bills and take a trip to Ocean City.  The winning ticket was purchased at Normandy Crown located at 8505 Baltimore National Pike in Ellicott City.
