Pomfret Woman Wins $50,000 on Red Hot 5’s Scratch-off

Angela Thompson - Red Hot 5's

Angela Thompson’s red hot date earned her some red hot cash.  The 45-year-old from Pomfret won $50,000 playing the Maryland Lottery’s Red Hot 5’s scratch-off.

Angela was preparing dinner for her boyfriend Tuesday night when she ran out of milk.  “The only time I cook is when he comes over,” she said.  Angela hurried to the store, and bought a few scratch-offs on her way out.  She was making mashed potatoes when she scratched the winning ticket.  “I scratched the first two rows and saw that I had won $20,000,” she said.  “I ran to my sister’s house, yelling all the way up the road.”  It wasn’t until after Angela’s mother told her to finish scratching the ticket that she discovered she had hit the ticket’s $50,000 top prize.

Angela, who works in the trucking business, plans to use her winnings to pay bills.  “Out of all the people I know, no one deserves it more than Angela,” said Angela’s aunt, Elaine.  “Angela has a heart of gold and is always taking care of us.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Joe’s Groceries & Liquors located at 8335 Marshall Circle in Pomfret.  There are two $50,000 top prizes remaining on the $5 Red Hot 5’s scratch-off.
