Wilbert L. Martin, Jr. was ready to quit when he decided to play just one more time. “I was going to give up, but I just kept playing until I won,” said the 51-year-old. Wilbert, an avid scratch-off fan, bought a $10 Big Bucks Party Pack on Wednesday and began scratching his tickets at the store. Minutes later, he was calling his wife Carol, to tell her that they were $100,000 richer. Wilbert rushed home, called his mom and drove to Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore to claim his prize.
Wilbert, a landscaper by day and delivery driver by night, plans to use his winnings to pay some bills. The winnings will also go toward his upcoming trip to Las Vegas, where he hopes his luck will continue.
The Maryland Lottery’s Big Bucks Party Pack, a $10 scratch-off bundle, still has one $100,000 top prize remaining. Wilbert’s winning ticket was purchased at Easton Super Soda located at 326 E. Dover St. in Easton.
