The Maryland Lottery made Anthony Palerino’s last week in Maryland 10,000 times better. The 75-year-old, who is moving to Merritt Island, Fla. next week, won $10,000 playing Mega Millions on Thursday.
The lucky winner plays the Lottery almost every week. In the past he used birthdays, anniversaries and the lucky number list inside his fortune cookies to generate his Lottery numbers, but he never had any luck. Now, Anthony plays random numbers, a strategy that clearly seems to be successful.
Anthony and his wife are excited about their new home in Florida, and are especially excited that they will be able to play golf year-round. The couple, who have been married for 14 years, started spending time together after both of their spouses died in 1992. Since then, the couple has enjoyed volunteering and traveling.
They plan to use Anthony’s winnings toward the move. Anthony said he will also share the wealth with Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Libertytown.
The winning ticket was purchased at Countryside Liquors, located at 11717 Old National Pike in Frederick.
