$50,000 King of Clubs Top-Prize Winner

King of ClubsEric Williams and his partner of five years, Jacqueline Townley, didn’t realize the brief stop they made at Edgewood Liquor Grocery & Deli would turn out to be worth $50,000. “She didn’t want to, but since I was driving I decided to stop there on our way to go shopping,” said Eric.

“I go to to see what top prizes are left on scratch-offs, then I pick the ones I like,” said Jacqueline. It paid off for her when she bought the King of Clubs ticket.

The 46-year-old scratched her ticket right in the store. “She jumped up and down and hugged everyone, even people just coming,” said Eric. “They probably thought I lost my mind,” Jacqueline interjected.

Jacqueline tried to cash her ticket at Lottery Headquarters the same day, but didn’t have the necessary identification with her. She then stopped to see her favorite Lottery retailer, David, at Aberdeen Liquors. David, the store owner, kept Jacqueline’s $50,000 winning King of Clubs ticket for her until she could return to Lottery Headquarters. “I knew I could trust David. I have known this man for 30 years. I’m so glad to know someone like that,” Jacqueline said with a smile.

The 22-year-employee of Baltimore’s Veterans Administration, plans to pay off her vehicle, get out of debt and take a cruise to Jamaica. The winning ticket was purchased at the Edgewood Liquor Grocery & Deli, located at 2200 Philadelphia Rd. in Edgewood.
