Donald Waid lives a simple life. He has been working as a salesman for a trash company for the past 25 years. He has been married to his wife for 29 years. He has two kids and two grandkids. His simple pleasure is playing the Maryland Lottery. Specifically, he enjoys playing scratch-offs like Blackout Bingo. During his lunch break on Wednesday, he stopped by a Lottery retailer and purchased a few Keno tickets and a couple of Blackout Bingo scratch-offs.
“Once I bought the tickets, I went back to my car, ate my lunch and scratched them,” said the winner. “I then realized that I may have won $30,000, so I double checked it.” Donald thought he was seeing things in the car. When finally convinced that he’d won the top prize, he responded with a big “whoa!”
After digesting the good news, he then called his wife who thought he was playing a joke on her. It wasn’t until he got home and showed her the ticket that she believed him. Donald plans to pay bills with his prize money as well as share his windfall with his family.
The winning ticket was purchased at Tuckers Liquor, located at 8100 Old Alexandria Ferry Road in Clinton.
