Each week, Theresa Davila collects one dollar from 20 of her co-workers. She then purchases 21 Mega Millions tickets for every Friday drawing. This has been the drill for several years now. That routine paid off when Theresa discovered that she and her fellow Lottery players would split $10,000.
“I went to the store and checked the tickets on the Lottery scanner,” said Theresa.
“Every ticket was coming up, no winner, no winner, no winner. The very last one I checked, the clerk told me that I’d won $10,000.”
The Reston, Virginia resident happened to buy the winning ticket while on a mini-vacation in Salisbury. “Whenever I’m in a different state, I like to buy the Mega Millions tickets there,” said Theresa.
The 54-year-old was clearly elated about the win, but had also calculated how much each person in the group would have gotten had they won the entire $16 million jackpot for the March 16th drawing. “Man, just one more number and we would each have had $636,000,” she said with a chuckle.
Theresa, who is single, intends to put her winnings in the bank. Each player received a little over $300. She also intends to continue playing Mega Millions. In fact, her parting words were, “I’m stopping at the nearest Maryland gas station to buy some tickets for tonight’s drawing.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Salisbury Quick Stop, located at 2513 N. Salisbury Blvd. in Salisbury.
