There was no jackpot winner from last night’s Mega Millions drawing, making Friday night’s jackpot $171 million. The cash option is $113.7 million. The drawing did produce five $10,000 third-tier winners and over 50,000 total winners in Maryland.
Maryland has had a number of second and third-tier Mega Millions winners since the beginning of the year. Since January, there have been five second-tier $250,000 winners and 34 third-tier $10,000 winners in Maryland. Three of those second-tier winning tickets remain unclaimed, including a January 6th ticket sold at Westlake Wine, Beer & Deli in Bethesda, a February 6th ticket sold at Royal Farms on Joppa Rd in Baltimore and a February 13th ticket sold at Mars #10 on Belair Rd. in Nottingham.
If the $171 million jackpot is hit in Maryland, it will be the second-largest jackpot ever won in Maryland Lottery history. The current record holder, Bernadette Gietka from Baltimore County, won a $183 million Mega Millions jackpot in June 2003.
The Mega Millions drawing is held in Atlanta, Georgia and can be seen locally on Tuesday and Friday evenings at 11:22 pm on WBAL-TV, Channel 11 and at 11:58 PM on Maryland Public Television. The multi-state Mega Millions game is played in 12 states — Maryland, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Virginia, Washington, Texas and California.
